About us

Laboratory of Evolution of Paleo-Oceans and Mantle Magmatism (LEPOM) was established at the Geology-Geophysical Faculty of the Novosibirsk State University in 2017 in the frame of a megagrant Project # 14.Y26.31.0018 “A multidisciplinary study of Pacific-type orogenic belts and development of a holistic model linking evolution of oceans, their active margins and mantle magmatism”.

Project team includes both, mature scientists, i.e. the doctors and candidates of science, who are experts in many fields of Earth Sciences and have big experience in implementing Russian and international research projects and preparing scientific papers in high-rank peer-reviewed journals on the one hand, and the gifted young scientists already involved in research on the other hand. In total, the research team includes 27 researchers and their assistants, of which 60% are early career scientists and students. The research team includes Leading scientist, six doctors of science and 8 candidates of science (two of which are young scientists), three young scientists without scientific degree, three post-graduate students and five under-graduate students. Our young scientists including under- and post-graduate students will be involved into all activities related to our Project.

A key participant of the Project is Professor Shigenori Maruyama, a world known scientist. Prof. Maruyama is one of the world best cited experts in geology and tectonics of Japan and other Pacific-type orogenic belts.
