About us

The Laboratory of Evolution of Paleo-Oceans and Mantle Magmatism (LEPOM) was established at the Geology-Geophysical Faculty of the Novosibirsk State University in 2017 in the frame of a megagrant Project # 14.Y26.31.0018 “A multidisciplinary study of Pacific-type orogenic belts and development of a holistic model linking evolution of oceans, their active margins and mantle magmatism”. Now the Lab is continuing research in the field of evolution of paleo-oceans and their active margins with additional focuses to ocean plate stratigraphy and subduction erosion.

Nowadays the LEPOM2020 research team includes both, mature scientists, i.e. the doctors and candidates of science, who are experts in many fields of Earth Sciences and have big experience in implementing Russian and international research projects and preparing scientific papers in high-rank peer-reviewed journals on the one hand, and the gifted young scientists already involved in research on the other hand. The LEPOM2020 research team includes 16 researchers and their assistants, of which 60% are early career scientists and students. The research team includes six Doctors of Science and three candidates of science (two of which are young scientists), three young scientists without scientific degree, who are also post-graduate students, and four under-graduate students. Our young scientists including under- and post-graduate students are active participants of all research projects run by LEPOM2020.
